What’s new? How much do they cost? And how do they perform? Hannah Holden brings you the low down on the new Titleist T100 irons
The Titleist T150 irons are a completely new Titleist model for 2023. So who are they for, and what do they do? Find out in our Titleist T150 irons review…
For me, the Titleist T150 iron is the star of the show when it comes to the new T-Series line-up.It has an incredible blend of looking like a players’ club behind the ball, feeling like a players’ club, but also delivering excellent distance and forgiveness.
PROS
CONS
I love a set of Titleist irons, so I couldn’t wait to get down to Woburn and test the new range earlier this year. The T150 is a brand new model in the T-Series lineup, which comes into replace the T100 S, which was a stronger lofted version of the T100. Titleist recognised a lot of golfers appreciated the extra distance this model provided but would have liked an element of added forgiveness compared to the T100. They have worked on this a come back with the new T150 to deliver on that.
The big thing I loved about my previous T100S irons was the tour shape and sizing. I really like looking down at a smaller club and feel it gives me more control. I would agree, though, that the longer irons maybe weren’t as forgiving as I needed. I ended up using a T200 5-iron for this reason but also felt it was a slight jump from my 6 to 5-iron because of this.
When I heard about the T150’s, I was intrigued as this felt like it could be the perfect club for me, especially at the top of the bag.
This is known as the ‘faster tour iron’. It is for players who want the control and feel of the T100 but require a slight increase in speed, distance and forgiveness.
I love the fact that this T150 model looks almost identical to the T100 offering, so you still really have that tour player look, but you get the bonus of some added distance and forgiveness.
The T150 is built on the same fully forged platform as T100, it has the same blade length and offset measurements but has 2° stronger lofts. The only difference in shaping is that the topline is slightly thicker than the T100 in a bid to make this more confidence-inspiring over the ball. I think Titleist have really nailed this.
From my perspective, I like the minimal offset and the compact size as it gives me more confidence I have a club that is going to help me control the golf ball. I do think the slightly wider topline is more confidence inspiring especially with the long irons.
The big difference in tech between these and the T100 irons is a muscle channel. This is the long thin grey rectangle you can see above the T150 logo on the back of the club head. This adds ball speed but has also been pulled nearer the club face to create a more solid feel at impact.
Unfortunately, I didn’t save all my fitting data but you can see a snapshot below. On average these carried 6 yards further than the T100 model which is just over half a club longer for me. The distance is very similar to what I saw with my previous T100S irons where I would have expected to carry my 7-iron 155 yards.
What I really like from this data is the launch angle and land angle are identical to what I saw with the T100 irons, so I am still getting really optimal flight and control. The spin is slightly lower but only by a few hundred rpms and is still very workable at over 6000 rpms with a 7-iron.
Since my fitting, I have received a combo set of T-Series irons and got them out in play on the golf course. I chose to go with the T100 model from pitching wedge to 8-iron to give me that control I want coming into the green with the short irons. I then moved up to the T150 model to give me that added distance and forgiveness from 7-iron up to 4-iron.
The long irons feel so powerful but also so controlled, it really is a wicked combination. I also can’t believe how good the feel is off the face for a club with a decent bit of technology packed away under the hood.
Overall I have really enjoyed testing these irons, and I think these T150 mid and long irons will be sneaking into my golf ball for the foreseeable future. I love the fact you can combo between so many models in this range so I can get the control, feel and workability I want in my short irons but get something with a little more ball speed and distance at the top end of my bag.
I have loved testing the whole T-Series range, but I really think this T150 is a killer model.
