General TBE Forum > Wimbledon and Andy Murray

It's that time of year again when suddenly everyone becomes a tennis fan, even though the majority of us never pick up a racket or watch any other tennis for the other 50 weeks of the year. Although in fairness there is something a little special about wimbledon.

This brings me on to Andy Murray. Firstly i think he is a talented and driven individual and has every chance of winning wimbledon (which is something i never felt with Tiger Tim Henman). However i'm somewhat surprised by the outpouring of british suppost for him. As he has stated on many occassions he sees himself as a scotsman and not british. Although he's toned this down recently as part of his pr campaign. So are you supporting Andy Murray and if there are any sotsman on here, will you be rejoicing at a british win at wimbledon if he does it or will you be boasting of a scottish victory and giving two fingers to the english?

He's an arsy Scotsman through and through , I've no issue with that but I won't be joining in the celebrations when he does (some year if not this year) win. Some of us put being British first and English / Scottish / Welsh/ Irish etc. second but he obviosly feels a Scotsman first and foremost and thats his perogative. I'm sure the celebrations north of the border will knock the spots of whatever celebrations there are in the rest of Britain anyway.

Looks like it wasn't to be for Murray this year and i can't say i'm too disappointed. Roger Federer is an absolute legend and i was delighted to see him win, although i had great sympathy for Roddick who seems like a top bloke. But on the bright side he is married to a sports illustrated model, so i find it hard to be too sympathtic for him.

I agree with your point about the scottish. Personally i consider myself English/British and even European with equal measure (although perhaps that's just because i'm off to france in a few days). However this rarely seems to be the case with Welsh and Scottish people, although i'm sure there may be good historical reasons for this.

well what can i say if he had won it would have been this one is for scotland (so i think) so why do we let all the 2nd rate sports men or women break all our hopes we do it with all our sportsmen/women from track and field to boxing (which is the best sport) bring back the 70s when men were men and the women were well im not sure.
all the best.
