Plumbing Forum > Crap Shower

I live in a second floor flat and the shower is absolutely rubbish (it does look nice though!)

Anyway basically I think the water is fighting its way up the stairs and by the time it gets to the second floor it has lost all of its pressure.

We are considering replacing the shower head and pipe as it could be due to limescale build up. Do you think this would help?

If not can you suggest an alternative... its rented so we wont be putting a new shower in.

Thanks Charlie

you don't tell us what shower it is nothing about what supplies the water to the shower
so we have nothing to go on.

Good point! I have no idea but I will find out and get back to you. Is there anything else that would be good for you to know about the shower or water supply?

Thanks Charlie

what shower type, make, model, if you can.
has it ever been any good or only lately.
what supplies the water mains if electric or combi etc if a mixer shower.

thats about it for now.

Sorry I have been side tracked, but basicaly its never been any good. We have an alectric supply and it is on a mixer tap, i.e. with the bath.

Not sure what the make and model ae but I'll take a look.
Thanks Charlie

Ok so you must have though I disappeared. I havent been able to find out the make of the shower, I know this seems ridiculous sorry.

We only have electric in our flat, and the shower has never been good. In teh kitchen the cold water has better pressure, if that has anything to do with it?

Thanks Charlie

you say you have an electric supply but then you say its a mixer with the bath - can you clarify this . If it is a bath shower mixer ( ie a mixer tap that also fills the bath and has a selector to toggle between the bathspout and the shower) then this is not an electric shower. Given that you say you only have electric I am guessing that your domestic hot water is provided via a cylinder with electric immersion heater (possibly two heater elements if its set up for overnight cheap rate electric). The cylinder will be in the airing cupboard .... does this make sense ? What does it say on the cylinder ? The cylinder could be a type that provides pressurised hot water (these tend to be fairly modern / newbuild ) or it could be the old type that uses a header tank ( either immediately above or in the loft) to provide the hot water at lower pressure.

Hey Scotty,

You are right in that the shower is not electric, its exactly as you described it above. To heat up the water we have to turn on 2 switchs (that are ion teh kitchen) specifically for the water. We have a large cylinder tank in the airing cupboard so I will have a look on it.

Im guessing that we basically have low pressure and there is very little to do about it, but thanks for all your help!
