Plumbing Forum > no cold water upstairs

I dont have any cold water upstairs in the toilet, sink or bath.. I have hot water but I have a hotwater tank so that probably will run out at some time. The water is working normally downstairs. does anyone know what I should do.

whats the cold water supplied by ? cws or mains.
check the tanks in the loft if the cold is supplied by the same tank as the hw cylinder then the hot should of stopped first if piped correct.

thank you I think the only tap by mains is the cold water tap in kitchen.. thanks for your advice.. do i need a plumber..

have a look in the loft see you you come up with.
but if the cold to bathroom etc is off the same tank then your hot supply won't last long either.

if your not sure what your looking at or for yes then get a plumber.
but i would only say its a block in the tank connector for the cold or a faulty ballcock
or an airlock.

How cold is the weather where you are ? Could it be that the cold feed to the cws is frozen ?

Hi I have checked ball cock in the loft which is fine.. and the supply tank is full to just undert the overflow, The hotwater works everywhere but the cold still doesnt work upstairs. I have left the taps open for 5 mins to see if that would clear an airlock.. Help...

can you get a hose to the bathroom cold tap ?
open the bath tap and shove that up it. but don't go to mad with the mains pressure.

Bren - what Hi spec is suggesting is for a temporary connection (to a cold tap in the bathroom ) of a length of garden hose , the other end connected to mains water. The mains pressure water willl push the air (and / or debris as well if that is part of the problem) back into the CWS, airlock released as bubbles into the CWS , then remove hose and problem sorted. Cheaper than a plumber and hes going to charge you a few quid to do much the same thing !!

Good luck

Sorry to be dumb.. but can i do the same thing with the hot water from the tap in the bathroom? if not then do i do it to the cold tap in the kitchen or the cold water supply in the loft.. I really appreciate your time and patience with me.. Thank you so much.

No cause the hot is gravity fed to so cold/hot will be same pressure.

if not then do i do it to the cold tap in the kitchen or the cold water supply in the loft..

have you got an ouside tap ? if not a cold water w/machine outlet ?
anywhere you can connect a hose to a cold mains connection will do.
just to blow and restriction or airlock out of the cold supply to the bathroom.

i would be more inclined to blow it backwards first as i'm more leading to a restriction than an
airlock.
is your tank sealed with a lid in the loft or just open ?
