Electrical Forum > fused spur conversion to normal double plug socket

i have taken out some fused spur sockets and installed standard double plug sockets and they don't work. The fuse board has 15 amp cartridge fuses,i've replaced the fuses but the sockets still don't work, can someone offer some advice? Thanks

did you test that you were getting current at the old sockets before you removed them ? , is it all the sockets on the whole circuit or just the spur that does not work ? Have you checked the fuse on the fused spur ? or just the consumer unit ?

Hi Scotty,

They did work before.

A little history: I had 6 fused outlets (4 were for night storage heaters and 2 were for the elements in the hot water tank). 1 of the hot water tank elements outlets now works as a double plug and 1 of the storage heater outlets now works as a plug, the rest do not. I spoke to a spark and he said that I should just be able to swap the fronts over from a fused front to a normal plug face.

I hope this helps?

Storage heater points will only become live between approx midnight and 7.00am (economy seven). You will have to get the metering company to change the metering arrangement for these circuits to become live 24hours.
I'm assuming the storage heater point that does work used to control part of a combination storage heater (in the lounge by any chance). As for the hot water tank one switch will be for economy seven and the other 24hours

Does this sound like a possible answer.
Cheers
Dean
