The Building Experience DIY Forum > wickes loft boards

i just spent the day boarding my loft.

i used wickes loft boards which were supposed to be tongue and groove for ease.

they were rubbish. specifically, the tongue and groove was only on the side of the boards and not at the end.

my dad thinks i got a dodgy batch. have you used wickes loft boards before and did they have tongue and groove on the ends as well as sides?

also the groove was too deep so the tongue only went in a short way making it a bit week.

disappointed.

i did my loft with wickes boards and found them really good. no loft boards have the ends grooved so they werent dodgy. also if you had adjacent boards a different way up you would get a gap. the gap should be underneath to allow for a little expansion while keeping the top joint tight. i suspect you may not have read the instructions.....!

V313 boards are t & g on all four edges.

but they are often too big and heavy to get into a loft...

I have only used them once, one person on the landing and me in the loft and they were a doddle. A younger me could have probably managed on my own though.

Good coverage of course with 2.4m x 0.6m boards and as the ends are t&g, an offcut from the end of a row can be used to start the next which results in minimal wastage.
