The Building Experience DIY Forum > Turf or seed
I returfed a few years ago and I was not 100% happy - the turf was not a cheap one but it did have mosses etc in it once rolled out .
I reseeded a couple of sizeable bare patches (where rabbit run and trampoline had been) only 5 weeks ago and it seems to have taken extremely well - seems a lot lusher and denser ( and obviously less moosy) than the original turf already. Like with many things though .... its all down to the preparation !!
I turfed my garden about 3 years ago and it looked brilliant to begin with. It was decent (expensive) turf and very good soil as the previous owner of the house had the whole garden as a vegetable patch. However a few years on and i'm a little disappointed with it as it is patchy now and a few weeds have come through. Can't comment on seed but friends of mine that are keener gardneners than me always say it is the better choice.
I agree totally with Scotty that it's all about preperation, in particular i'd recommend you roll it or find some way of evening out the grass as mine isn't flat and i always regret not spending a bit longer before putting the turf down.

hi guys,
i have landscaped my garden leaving me a flat area of topsoil, 28 sqm. what is best out of turf or lawn seed? i know seed takes longer but i have a feeling it is better in the long run, anyone have any experinece of it out there?
thanks
