I have been asked many times over the years on the best way to prepare sandstone prior to .painting. In short the answer is don't do it. Sandstone is is a natural building material that is designed to breath, ultimately taking in moisture in letting it back out again with the help of it's mortar joints which should always be made from lime never cement. If you are intent on painting your building why not consider lime washing, a much better alternative.
