The Building Experience DIY Forum > Shiny white floor tiles

Hello,

I want to get some large shiny white floor tiles for my bathroom. Porcelin perhaps. I thought this would be straightforward, but after visiting topps tiles and b&q realise it is not. The size is not the issue, but it is the colour that is proving to be the problem. I have managed to find a white tile in a mat finish. But all the shiny (glossy) tiles seem to be an off white colour. The bloke at topps tile said there was a reason for this but i could not understand what he was getting at. Anybody understand?

We just want tiles that will match the shower tray and other bathroom appliances. Who would have thought it would be so difficult to get hold of a plain white floor tile? I'm sure i've seen them in bathrooms before.

Thanks

There are plenty of white ones out there , expect to pay hansomely thoughfor shiny porcelain ones as the shiny ones are polished so are a lot more than the matt equivalent. Be carefull though if its in a bathroom that you have considered how slippery the floor may get. Topps may well have swerved your enquiry simply because they know next to nowt and blagged a bullsht answer , in truth you would most likely be better surfing the net and requesting samples or once you have a clearer idea go to an independant tile stockist and see if they have what you want (or could order in a sample)

Heres an example :

Have thought some more about the white / off white issue - might be to do with the fact that it is difficult to produce a tile without some colour degradtion or unevenness and there are colour shade differences between batches - for a coloured or mottled tile it would be more difficult to see the difference but on a pure white the slightest shade or tone change would be very noticable - Topps would probably struggle to source enough from a single consistent source because such tiles would be only made in very small batches (and with lots of rejects probably) so probably not suited to a large volume national retailer.

Why cant you just put a wall tile on the floor????? You can definitely get white wall tiles.
