The Building Experience DIY Forum > Lining for brick plant bed

Morning, I have had a large brick box built which is going to be filled with soil and used as a plant bed. I'm planning to put the soil in today, but it just occurred to me perhaps I should put some kind of lining in to protect the bricks? Hoping for a swift response as I'd like to crack on today, otherwise my trout will think I've just fabricated some excuse to get out of the gardening so that I can watch the sport........ Now there's an idea! Thanks in advance, good weekend.

Unless there is a dpc fitted the bricks are going to get damp anyway. More of a problem if they are porous bricks but if they dense bricks / engineering bricks I would not be overly concerned. If you are at all worried then putting a liner in would not hurt but I would suggest making planty of holes in the bottom so as to allow drainage - I am assuming that the existing base of the box is porous or drainage has been allowed for.

Nice day for it anyway ... now get those sleeves rolled up and stop slacking !!
