The Building Experience DIY Forum > skip problem

Please help, I ordered a 8 yard skip, paid when it was dropped off and filled it up. This was three weeks ago and I asked for it to be collected. It has now been three weeks and the skip has not gone despite six phone calls. Each time they say they will collect it that day. What can I do I am stuck with a skip on my driveway please help with any advice

Right this is what i would do. Phone another skip company and offer to pay them to take the skip away. Perhaps before you do this you may want to write a strong letter to the skip company that won't pick it up threatening to do this. That should probably do the trick.

Be careful though, i've always been led to believe that the skip industry is basically run by gansters (apologies to any skip companies if this is incorrect), so you might not want to fall out with them as they know your address! Good luck

Maybe get a mate to ring up ask them if they could fulfil a quick order for say 10 or 20 8 yard skips .... impressing upon them that he has a big rush job on cash in hand . Usually the skip companies round my way are short of skips and this may prove a good little incentive for them to round up all of the ones out on hire that they can. Needless to say your mate with the enquiry in the end does not need the skips after all as the rush job falls through.

However, have you first ruled out the possibiity that the skip company has been already and decided not to take it as you may have over filled it ?? .... this does sometimes happen and they sometimes do not put a note through the door if nobody is at home

thanks for that but the plot thickens. scotty, i have used the company before and put a lot more in there than there is at the mo, and they told me to put more in. its mainly timber and general rubbish anyway, not soil.
the general, no other skip company will take it, full or empty. i am hearing rumours that the firm have a terrible rep locally, and may be going bust
its now five weeks, anymore ideas?
