Decorating Forum > wallpaper seams
I had this problem with a laura ashley paper, it was a deep red and i had a white hairline at every seam.
There was no gap and it was all nice and plumb. What happened was the facing side had shrunk slightly, enough to show the white backing paper, it only needs a mm or 2 to make a noticeable problem.
Laura ashley has a bad reputation amongst decorators, its just poorly made and i would think homebase not much better. If your going to use dark papers you have to buy quality. I have found in general wallpaper is getting worse, i had a graham and brown blown vinyl this year that hadn't been cut evenly on the seam, making the match uneven.
So i dont think your technique is to blame, lining would have made no difference, its just poor manufacturing.
I generally find with papers that the better ones are heavier with a good thick strong backing.

hi there, i do a lot of painting and decorating with good results but im having a problem with dark patterned papers that i cant overcome myself and need advice. lining papers, anaglyptas, light coloured flat papers all no prob but the past twice ,once with a hombase dark brown paper and with a laura ashley isodore charcole paper i am getting the faintest of white lines showing at each seam(so little that you wouldnt even see the seam on o lighter coloured paper).the house is only 5 yr old so walls like new, previously painted in emulsioned i used a seam roller didnt over wipe the seams, pasted one length at a time to make sure i didnt over soak the paper but still these lines. its not like a gap at the seams its like a white hair only showing up when the light hits it. ps i didnt line the walls as the surfaces were good and not porous.any help appreciated
