Decorating Forum > Painting render

Hello,

Can somone tell me what sort of paint i shoud be using to paint the outside of my house. Its rendered and was painted some time ago, before we moved in, and just needs to be given another cote. I think i shoud be using either a plain external paint or possibly a masonry paint? Sorry if this is a stupid question but from looking around i don't think it is that clear.

Thanks

S

Go with the masonry paint. if the surface is getting a bit worn consider a coat of fungicide primer first

i would strongly recommend dulux weathershield, it is expensive but it does the job, its the only exterior paint i use, you will be better off getting the trade paint, it better in so meny ways, it lasts longer, try looking on duluxdecoratorcentre.co.uk
they have all the info you will need, as well as your local store.

Thanks guys.

all depends on the surface finish you want, textured just feels gritty, the smooth doesnt, say you have pebble dash theres no point using textured, if its smooths render i would go for the smooth not the textured.
i cant stress the point of that its expensive but worth it, for me dulux having been making paint for donkeys years, thats all i use for work and in 9-10 years its never let me down, just follow what it says to do, ie the Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer, prime the surface first, but just have a talk to the guys in the dulux centre about it, its used if the surface powdery
