Double check that you have adequate ventilation to the roof area, you can't just stuff insulation into every nook & cranny, this will keep the house warmer but there needs to be an air gap between insulation & the sarking felt (if any) @ the rafters, and at the eaves if you don't let the roof space breathe it will create condensation & untimately will cause rot in the roof timbers ~ It would be wise to ask your local building control dept for advice, or speak to a specialist loft converter, don't just plod on without suitable advice

I see quite a lot on these forums about loft conversions needing to meet building regs but i live in an old house that already has two rooms in the loft, and has for hundreds of yers with their own staircase. But the rooms are noy insulated. i do not think this is a building reg issue as i am not converting a loft, but i do want to improve the space. what is the best way to insulate this room form the inside. also i want to show some oak roof timbers when finished. many thanks
